"I don't
care how it sounds to others"
Many have asked what genre
does Bendiavolo's music belong to, many have
tried to give names to something that cannot be defined by mere words,
something that cannot be measured or compared to anything but itself;
the only thruth is: it belongs to whatever genre you (the listener) feel
it belongs. This is usually different for every person, and it's what
makes each song unique in its own way. What you're surely wondering is: How did
it come to this? How did
all of this start? As Bendiavolo himself puts it: "My attraction
to
collecting the darkest songs of every band could be defined as the
beginning of this expression. Since the very first time, every artist
has felt the urge to exteriorize a -sometimes distorted- representation
of his own feelings; with diverse purposes such as self-destruction,
self-pity, redemption, pride... and my creations can fit into many of
these purposes".
This attraction would find its definitive
outlet in the middle of 2003,
when he decided not to be just a spectator of other artists' work, but
to be an active part of the scene, to create his own art. Of all the
possible forms that he could have chosen to do this, music was above the
rest: "I believe music is a virtual tie to the world, altough
one we
desperately need, since the tie of reality slowly cuts its threads one
by one up to the point where it's too fragile for us to hold a grip on
it. One way or another, my music always sounds the way I want, but never
the way I really wish it to. I don't care how it sounds to others - what
I create is satisfying enough for me."
Inspired by diverse artists that marked his
early days such as "Nine Inch
Nails", "Depeche Mode", "Type O Negative",
and the Romanian "Demonisi", and influences such as "Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds" or "Metallica", Bendiavolo began experimenting
with
samples, sinthetizers and his own voice to create what would become
his first songs at the end of 2003: "Close", "Return To
Emptiness" and "Crystal Lick". And that was just the beginning: when he first
released
his music on the Internet in the first quarter of 2004, it was more
than clear that there would be no way to close the box, so much like
Pandora's, that had been opened years before. In the middle of 2005 the first album was released, "World Without Sun" was definitively concluded.
And where do we go from there? Well, the
box is still open, perhaps more
than ever, in continuous search for new sounds and musical evolution. | |
